National Donut Day is Friday, June 3, and many popular confectioners are offering free donuts, doughnuts and do-nuts in honor of this event.
While celebrating fried dough at the start of bikini season might seem like a cruel joke, National Donut Day dates back to World War I, when Salvation Army volunteers (called "Donut Lassies") provided coffee and doughnuts to soldiers on the battlefield. Today, National Donut Day celebrates America's favorite breakfast food while raising awareness and funds for The Salvation Army.
Without further ado, here's a roundup of doughnut/donut/do-nut shops and brands offering freebies this Friday.
