Anyone who watched G.I. Joe as a kid can tell you, “knowing is half the battle.” When it comes to Black Friday, knowing which sales to target and what time to be there is also half the battle. The other half consists of wading through seas of surly shoppers to nab doorbusters before you get trampled.
In keeping with the trend that has developed over the last few years, many stores will open their doors on Thanksgiving Day and will remain open for nearly the entire weekend. To make your life easier, here are Black Friday opening times and special offers for 52 popular stores. Not every location participates, and offers can change at the last minute, so check with your local store if you have any questions about their promotion.

ACE Hardware - Opening Time Varies
Opening times vary for ACE Hardware franchises, their circular advertises a Thanksgiving 5 Day Sale starting on Wednesday, Nov. 23. Shoppers who have access to ACE’s Black Friday ad should clip coupons for 50% off one item under $30, or $15 off one item over $30, on Friday, Nov. 25, plus a coupon for $10 off a regular-priced purchase of $50 or more on Saturday and Sunday.
A.C. Moore - 5:00 a.m Friday
In addition to deep discounts on crafting supplies, get 50% off Crayola products as well as Yankee Candles for just $5 (originally $12.99) and “pine-like” wreaths and garland for just $1.88 each (regularly $7.99). The print ad also features a coupon for 60% off one regular-price item from noon to close on Friday, or 40% off the total regular-price purchase from 5 a.m. to noon on Friday.
Deals at Bass Pro Shops begin on Nov. 23, and stores will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Thursday shoppers will have access to a box of 9mm Remington cartridges for $5, though a mail-in rebate of $5 is required. The biggest savings at Bass Pro will be found in their 6-hour Sale from 5-11 a.m. on Friday. Everything from fleece to fishing equipment is marked down, including $500 off a Lowrance Hook-9 Fishfinder.
Head to Bealls’ website before you shop in-store on Thursday to get a free coupon for $10 off your $25 purchase or $25 off your $100 purchase. You can also get a coupon for 50% off the entire stock of clearance between 5am and 1pm on Black Friday, with savings of up to 90%. Late-day shoppers can enjoy a tiered offer of up to $20 off their purchase of $100 or more starting at 1pm on Black Friday through Saturday.
Customers will receive a coupon for 20% off their purchase from 6 a.m. until noon on Black Friday. The coupon is valid all day so shoppers can return to the store later on Friday for redemption. Look for savings on Dyson products including the Dyson V6 Animal Cordless Stick for $299.99 (originally $499.99) and $30 off a Keurig K5S Elite Brewing System.
Belk will welcome customers two hours earlier than last year, opening their doors at 4:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving. The retailer will be giving away $2 million in gift cards, with one customer receiving a gift card for $1,000 in every store, and offer $10 cash back with every $100 spent between November 24 and 25. Belk is also offering $10 off your first $50 or more regular or sale purchase between November 24 and 25.
While the doors open at 5 p.m., Best Buy staff will be handing out tickets for doorbuster items two hours in advance. Best Buy will remain open until 1 a.m. on Friday, and then reopen at 8:00 a.m. with more doorbuster tickets being issued an hour prior. Top deals include an LG 60” LED 4K HD TV for $599.99 (saving consumers $400) and up to $125 off all 9.7-Inch iPad Pro tablets.
Big Lots is offering savings through midnight on Thanksgiving and reopening at 6:00 a.m. on Black Friday and 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. Look for BOGO offers on clothing, toys and electronic accessories, plus receive a coupon for up to $40 off depending on your spending for savings between Nov. 27 and Dec. 2.
BJ’s is offering 10 days of deals starting Nov. 18 and will not be open on Thanksgiving. The warehouse club will open at 7:00 a.m. on Black Friday and will continue to offer deals through Nov. 28. Top deals include an Apple iPad Pro 9.7” 128GB for $589.99, the lowest price the experts at Dealnews.com have seen for this product all year; and a Swagtron T1 Hoverboard for $299.99, $50 to $100 less than hoverboard deals offered by competitors.
The popular department store located primarily in the Midwest and Northeast will open on Thanksgiving, offering over 700 doorbusters to eager customers. The first 200 people lined up will receive a gift card with values ranging from $5 to $500. Get your hands on their Black Friday ad for a coupon for $10 off any item of $10 or more, to be used on a regular or sale price item between 5pm Thursday and 3pm Friday.
Doors open at a reasonable time on Black Friday, with savings on everything from toys to apparel to luggage. Look for deals like bath and body sets starting at $7.99 and book sets starting at $4.99.
Cabela’s - 5:00 a.m. Friday
Cabela’s opening time, sale duration and doorbuster giveaways are similar to what the outdoor retailer has offered in the past, despite being acquired by Bass Pro Shops earlier this year. The first 600 in line will be eligible to receive free gifts such as rifles, rifle scopes, electric smokers and store gift cards. Deals are good for five hours only on Black Friday, and shoppers can earn up to $80 in Cabela’s Bucks.
Costco is sticking to its promise to remain closed on Thanksgiving. Shoppers can enjoy Instant Savings like $300 off a Nikon D3400 2-Lens DSLR Kit and $300 off a Dell XPS 13.3” Touchscreen Laptop, with savings available through Nov. 28. Costco also has an assortment of online-only deals between Nov. 24 and Nov. 28, with deals like $50 off XBox One Battlefield Elite Bundle and $250 off a Microsoft Surface Book Bundle.
Most locations of CVS/Pharmacy kick off Black Friday one day early, though opening times vary and pharmacy hours will also vary. Save on essentials like batteries and supplements, plus enjoy tons of BOGO deals on items like toys, candy and holiday lights. Spend $50 on select seasonal merchandise and receive $20 in Christmas Bucks for redemption within two weeks of receipt.
No need to wait in the cold for these deals. Dell will be offering rotating “doorbusters” online starting at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday and continuing through Black Friday. Deals like $99.99 for an 11.6” 2-in-1 Laptop (starting at 6pm Thursday) and $599.99 for a Samsung 55” 4K Ultra HD Smart TV with $150 Dell eGift card (starting at 8pm Thursday), with other deals like $479.99 for an Inspiron Desktop PC plus Dell 24 Monitor starting at 8pm on Friday.
Doorbuster deals at Dick’s will be available in-store from 6 p.m. Thanksgiving Day to 2 p.m on Black Friday. Stores close at 2 a.m. on Black Friday and reopen at 5 a.m., with doorbusters available until 2 p.m. Qualifying purchases on Thanksgiving Night and Black Friday include a $20 credit for a future purchase of $100 or more. Grab their ad for coupons to save an extra $15 on select athletic apparel or footwear purchases of $59.99 or more.
Notable deals from Dollar General happen on Thanksgiving Day, including BOGO free select As Seen on TV products. The rest of the sale goes until Nov. 28 and features 50-percent off candles and BOGO 75-percent off toys.
While opening times vary across the country, DSW will be closed on Thanksgiving. If the deals are anything like last year’s, look for 30% off your purchase of two or more pairs of shoes, plus receive a free giveaway (like a blanket) while supplies last.
Most locations of Family Dollar will be open through 7:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Look for such deals as BOGO 75% off on toys and BOGO 50% off on holiday decor on Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 27.
The popular electronics store is making it more challenging than most to receive deep discounts on Black Friday weekend. To receive their holiday savings starting on Thanksgiving, you must sign up for their promocode emails. Stores close on Thanksgiving at 11 p.m. and reopen at 8 a.m. on Black Friday.
GameStop was among the first retailers to eschew Thanksgiving day hours for a Black Friday opening. Most local stores will open their doors at 5:00 a.m. on Friday. Top deals include $30 off select games including Skyrim and The Elder Scrolls, plus $10 off 3-month and 6-month Xbox Live subscriptions on Friday and Saturday only.
Gordmans will open its doors on Thanksgiving, with doorbusters ending Friday at 1 p.m. Coupons for 20% off on Thursday and 15% on Friday are available in the Black Friday ad. Top deals include 65% off 32” Westinghouse LED HDTVs (before 1pm on Friday), and 42% off a KitchenAid 5-qt Stand Mixer in red, black or silver.
Joining other retailers in this list, H&M opted out of opening its doors on Thanksgiving and instead will offer discounts on its fast-fashion merchandise beginning on Black Friday. Shoppers can also access pre-Black Friday deals on their website the week leading up to the event.
The first 100 shoppers at Half Price Books receive a free tote bag and $5 gift card, with one tote containing a $100 gift card. All shoppers can enjoy 20% off storewide, plus a free 2017 calendar with $30 purchase (a whopping $2.99 retail value -- woohoo!).
Harbor Freight is having a three-day sale, but bargains are first-come, first-served. Once they’re gone, they’re gone for good. Look for savings of up to 86 percent, including a 60” 4-Drawer Hardwood Workbench for $159.99 (regularly $395.00), and a 45-Watt Solar Panel Kit 10-Piece Kit for $179.99 (regularly $249.00).
Enjoy one-day only savings from H-E-B stores starting at 6 a.m. on Black Friday and ending at 11 p.m. that evening. Depending on your purchase amount, you will receive coupons for extra savings ($10 to $15) on purchases made Saturday and Sunday.
Earlier this season, HHgregg was among the handful of retailers announcing Thanksgiving Day closures for 2016, a departure from the previous two years when the regional electronics’ retailers opened their doors on Turkey Day. This year, HHGregg will open at a leisurely 7 a.m. on Black Friday, with top offers including up to 40-percent off appliances, $40 off Apple TV with Siri and deep discounts on Samsung HD TVs.
JCPenney - 3:00 p.m. Thanksgiving
Keeping with last year’s early opening time, JCPenney is welcoming customers at 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Doorbuster pricing is valid from opening through 5:00 p.m. on Black Friday, with “spotlight deals” including various Cooks Power kitchen appliances for $7.99 to $9.99. While supplies last, an unknown number of Thanksgiving shoppers will receive a coupon for either $10 off $10, $100 off $100 or $500 off $500.
Up to 70% off flannel and holiday fabrics, ornaments and holiday bushes and stems are just a few of the doorbusters from JoAnn. Pick up their circular for access to a coupon for 25% off your total purchase from 6:00 a.m. to noon only on Black Friday which includes sale products but excludes doorbusters.
Kmart is opening at 7:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving this year, with doorbusters offered until 2 p.m. on Black Friday. The retailer is offering BOGO for $1 on all family footwear, $20 on outerwear for the family, and additional 50% off clearance toys.
Kohl’s - 6:00 p.m. Thanksgiving
Kohl’s is opening on Thursday, with deals available online starting Monday, Nov. 21. Top offers include 50-percent off a host of popular toys from Playskool, Fisher-Price, Barbie and Hot Wheels; $249.99 for a 49” 4K Ultra HDTV; $269 for an Apple Watch Series 1 plus $75 Kohl’s Cash; and $15 Kohl’s Cash for every $50 spent.
While other stores made headlines in 2016 for closing their doors on Thanksgiving, Macy’s decided to take a different approach and open an hour earlier than the previous three years. Eager shoppers can can cross the department store’s threshold starting at 5 p.m. this year, with some locations staying open for 29 hours straight, through 10 p.m., on Black Friday. Look for deals on clothing and home goods and be sure to get your hands on a copy of their circular for access to coupons for $10 or $25 off your purchase (doorbusters not included).
MC Sports is offering six hours of deals on Thanksgiving, including 25% off popular brands like Under Armour, select sports balls just $9.99 and half off Columbia backpacks. Gear from NHL, NFL and other professional sports teams will also be 30-percent off. The deals are good on both Thursday and Friday.
Meijer starts early with their Thanksgiving Day Sale, offering deals like a Vizio 50” LED TV for just $199.99 (reg. $399.99) and 50% off Beats Solo 2 Wired On-Ear Headphones. Other deals include an Xbox One S Console for $249.99 (reg. 299.99) and buy one get one free on women’s apparel items (Friday only).
Michael’s will open its doors from 6:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, and again at 7 a.m. on Friday. Shoppers on Thursday, Friday and Saturday can use hourly coupons, including 30-percent off purchases from 6 p.m. to midnight Thursday and 7 a.m. to noon Friday, 40-percent off from noon to 10 p.m. Friday, and 25-percent off 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
Modell’s is open from 6:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving until close, reopening at 6 a.m. on Friday with deals good through 2 p.m. that day. Look for deep discounts on Champion and Adidas products plus buy one get one free offers on lounge pants, socks, slippers and more.
Opening times vary by store, but New York & Company will be offering huge deals all of Thanksgiving week. Fashionistas can started on Wednesday, Nov. 25, when the first 100 customers receive a Mystery Card with savings of up to $100. On Thanksgiving Day, the first get a free watch with $15 purchase, plus savings of up to 60% off through midnight. On Friday, get a free teddy bear with $75 purchase, plus such doorbusters as a faux-fur trimmed puffer jacket for $39.99.
Black Friday deals will be available online all day Thanksgiving Day with free in-store pickup on $35 orders. Stores open at 6 a.m. on Friday. Shoppers can save up to $400 on an HP 15.6” Laptop with Intel Core Processor and over 50% off a Samsung 27” LED Monitor.
When doors will open on Friday is still up in the air, but the free headpiece for your pet is not. Arrive early and use a Pals card with any purchase to receive a Trolls headpiece for your dog or cat. Petco will offer a $5 bonus card when you buy a $50 gift card November 25 and 26 only. Though doors open at 7 a.m. on Black Friday, PetSmart’s deals will be available online starting at 7:00 a.m. ET on Thanksgiving with free shipping on all orders. In addition to 50% savings on hundreds of products, you can also take 50% off Doggie Day Camp services so you can shop while your pooch plays.
REI’s success last year with its #OptOutside campaign has motivated this retailer to close again this year on Thanksgiving and Black Friday. As the only national retailer to remain closed during a peak shopping day, REI hopes to get people out of the stores and into the outdoors with its #OptOutside campaign.
Rite Aid locations will open their doors at 7:00 a.m. on Black Friday, and many locations will be open on Thanksgiving. Some of the top savings buy-two-get-one-free deals on holiday wrapping, boxed chocolates and gadgets. Popular fragrance gift sets, Bluetooth headphones and other items will be up to 50-percent off.
In keeping with previous years, Sam’s Club will open at 7:00 a.m. on Black Friday, though shoppers can find exclusive online-only deals beginning on Dec. 20. Top deals include a Samsung Galaxy Tab A Bundle for $188.84 and 60” Vizio HD SmartCast TV for $548.
Sears is opening on Thanksgiving and at 5 a.m. on Black Friday. Check with your local store however, as some Sears locations will not be open on Thanksgiving. Top offers include a Craftsman 230-pc mechanic’s tool set for $89.99 and a Kenmore washer/dryer combo for $274.99 each. One of the best deals for Sears this year will be the points you will get back when you join Shop Your Way. It’s basically like getting money back on everything you purchase.
Over 850 doorbuster deals will be available from Shopko from 4 p.m. Thursday to 1 p.m. Friday. Sportsman’s Warehouse will open its doors at 6 a.m. on Black Friday, with doorbusters lasting until 10 a.m. Hot deals this year include a 30-inch electric smoker for just $139.98, Raptor Spinning Combo fishing rod for just $19.99 and Remington model guns starting at $249.99.
Stepping away from its Thanksgiving opening in prior years, Staples declared its commitment to associates and customers by opening at 6 a.m. on Black Friday this year. However, deals from the nation’s largest office-supply chain will still be available on Thanksgiving: shoppers who visit the store’s website the day before Black Friday will find special promotions. This year’s standouts include the Amazon Echo Dot for just $39.99 and free Staples gift cards with select Keurig purchases.
Target is sticking with its 6 p.m. opening on Thanksgiving and will have Black Friday deals available online that morning. Doorbuster deals are available in every department, but electronics deals are especially sweet. Toys ‘R Us has over 200 doorbusters including deals available only between 5:00 p.m. and midnight on Thanksgiving. “Bonus” doorbusters will be available starting at 7:00 a.m. on Black Friday through close-of-business Saturday. Top deals this year include Skylanders Imaginators Starter Packs for $37.49 (reg. 74.99), Nerf-N-Strike Elite Hail-Fire Blaster for $19.99 and Barbie Pop-Up Camper for $53.99
Beauty Busters begin online at 5 p.m. on Thursday, with stores opening at 6 p.m. According to Ulta’s teaser ad, shoppers can get buy one get one free on gift sets, select hair care, and cosmetics. Styling tools like irons and hair dryers will also see huge markdowns.
Forget about shopping Friday, Walgreens is cutting right to the chase. They’ll be open until 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving and 7:00 a.m. to midnight on Black Friday. Special savings storewide include 50-percent off Bluetooth speakers, earbuds and other electronics and free gift cards with iTunes card purchases. They will also feature buy one get one free deals on food items, vitamins and more.
Doors open again at 6 p.m. on Thursday this year, but online shoppers can purchase Black Friday deals all day on Thanksgiving. Walmart will offer deals like the Phillips 55” 4K 2160p 60Hz LED Smart HDTV for $298.00 (reg. $498.00), the iPhone 5S for $99.99 (reg. $150.00), and Select Video Games for $27.00 (re. $59.99).
